The holiday season can be a busy time, full of events and obligations. It can be difficult to stick to regular routines but if you’re a breastfeeding or pumpin’ mama, it’s important to drain your breasts regularly to help maintain your breastmilk supply and avoid uncomfortable plugged ducts or mastitis.
Stick to it! If you’ve got a regular pumping schedule, or your baby breastfeeds on a fairly regular routine, try to stick to it. Your baby, your body, your breastmilk supply are top priority. Auntie Gertrude can snuggle your little one when their tummy is full.
Be prepared! Bring a second set of pump parts and extra batteries when you travel. You don’t want to find yourself driving around an unfamiliar place in the middle of the night looking for a place to buy replacement membranes.
Know your rights! Travelling by air? Print a copy of the TSA’s “What Can I Bring” guidelines for easy reference. (Spolier alert: you can bring breastmilk in your carry on or checked luggage.)
Go hands-free! Use a PumpEase hands-free pumping bra to free up your hands while you pump. Pump while you wrap presents. Pump while you drive between holiday shindigs. Pump while you sip eggnog and stare at your gorgeous tree.
Pumping and breastfeeding can be challenging but they can also be your excuse to grab a little downtime during the chaos. Go on and steal some baby snugs and let the others clean the kitchen after your holiday feast. We won’t tell. 😉
