The breastfeeding world can be overwhelming and moms who pump can feel like they don’t belong. World Breast Pumping Day is an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the time, energy, and dedication pumping requires; it’s a chance to honour the love in every ounce. On January 27, 2019, people across the world will gather digitally to celebrate the third annual World Breast Pumping Day.
Wendy Armbruster, founder of Snugabell and creator of the award-winning PumpEase hands-free pumping bra and BRA’d dual-purpose nursing / pumping bra, started World Breast Pumping Day in 2017 to help create a space for pumping moms to celebrate their accomplishments and find their digital village.
The theme of World Breast Pumping Day 2019 is “Together We Can Pump.” In today’s digital age, many of us aren’t raising our babies with the same village past generations have relied on for support. Today’s mom needs to seek out her village and possibly reevaluate what that looks like, whether it be a supportive partner who washes the pump parts every night, an employer who provides the time and a place for pumping breaks, or people she connects with online to share hacks and shortcuts. Sharing our stories is an important part of normalizing pumping and breastmilk feeding. The normalization of breastmilk feeding is vital to our future generations. Breastmilk saves lives.
